I havent seen it yet Corelli but.........................the media tutor at the college I work very kindly put them onto DVD for me so I look forward to chilling out on the settee with my birthday beer and watching them all!
I heard Paul was on it, amongst others..I love Soul music, philadelphia and northern soul aswell as the soul greats!
Johnny...did you happen to see the documentary (three parts I think) Soul Brittannia on BBC Four the other week?
It charted the British love of black music (soul, Reggae, Blues) from the 50's/60's 'til the present day. It showed some great footage and played some great music. It mentioned the Mods and Paul Weller was interviewed along with Boy George and Ali from UB40 amongst others. It was a brilliant series and if you didn't see it you must catch it if/when it comes on again.
The Modfather indeedy! Great songwriter. Love The Wild Wood album so much. Seeing him live on a summers day in Hyde Park back in 2002 was just fantastic! Great crowd, great tunes!
Not that I know much about Paul Weller's music apart from his commercial hits with the Jam. Ok...so hang, draw and quarter me...a Brit that doesn't know about Paul Wellers work! Lol.
Take heed of these words, my friends.... "You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give" Kahlil Gibran
I want a little sugar in my bowl I want a little sweetness down in my soul I could stand some lovin' Oh so bad I feel so funny and I feel so sad
I want a little steam on my clothes Maybe I can fix things up so they'll go Whatsa matter Daddy Come on, save my soul I need some sugar in my bowl I ain't foolin' I want some sugar in my bowl
You been acting different I've been told Soothe me I want some sugar in my bowl I want some steam on my clothes Maybe I can fix things up so they'll go Whatsa matter Daddy Come on save my soul I want some sugar in my bowl I ain't foolin' I want some - yeah - in my bowl.
The Jam- English Rose, beautiful song from 1978. Still amazes me Paul Weller was just 19 when he wrote this!
No matter where I roam I will come back to my English rose For no bonds can ever tempt me from she I've sailed the seven seas, Flown the whole blue sky. But I've returned with haste to where my Love does lie. No matter where I go I will come back to my English Rose For nothing can ever tempt me from she. I've searched the secret mists - I've climbed the highest peaks Caught the wild wind home to hear her soft voice speak To hear her soft voice speak No matter where I roam I will return to my English Rose For no bonds can ever keep me from she.
I've been to ancient worlds I've scoured the whole universe And caught the first train home To be at her side. No matter where I roam I will return to my English Rose For no bonds can ever keep me from she
And Culture Club- Victims
The victims we know so well They shine in your eyes when they kiss and tell Strange places we never see But you're always there like a ghost in my dream And I keep on telling you Please don't do the things you do When you do those things pull my puppet strings I have the strangest void for you We love and we never tell What places our hearts in the wishing well Love leads us into the stream And it's sink or swim like it's always been And I keep on loving you It's the only thing to do When the angel sings there are greater things Can I give them all to you Pull the strings of emotion Take a ride into unknown pleasure Feel like a child on a dark night Wishing we could spend it together I could be warm with you smiling Hold out your hand for a while The victims we know them so well The victims we know so well They shine in your eyes when they kiss and tell Strange places we never see But you're always there like a ghost in my dream And I keep on telling you Please don't do the things you do When you do those things pull my puppet strings I have the strangest void for you Show my heart some devotion Push aside those that whisper never Fell like a child on a dark night Wishing we could spend it together I could be warm with you smiling Hold out your hand for a while The victims we know them so well
