There are less expensive properties out of London but most of them are in rougher areas so if you want a NICer area you have to pay more.
Oh to be able to buy a 4 bedroomed property on 2 1/2 acres in London for $199,000...that's £121,982.54 at todays rate! £121,982.54 wouldn't buy a one bedroom flat here in London.
199,000.00 USD
=
121,982.54 GBP

Nick 4 Life wrote:Corelli, are you serious? I'm talking a 3-bedroom home, 2-bath?? A few million? Are you just speaking of the England area? Or, are all cities and towns in England very pricey? Minus the known bad areas (Every city has them.)
I mean, I have a brand new 4-bedroom, 2200 sq. ft home on 2 1/2 acres, in California I purchased last year for $199,000 - of course this is because the housing market is in a slump but I suppose at the best of times the home would probably go for under $400,000 (at the very most)
I wasn't joking!

I guess I can kiss my dream summer home good bye!!!
Unless you have a few million $$$$ put by! Lol.

How wonderful Corelli and Scorpio! I've always wanted to live... well... not exactly in London because I have heard it's extremely expensive, but somewhere in England - maybe the countryside.
You know, living in California, it's actually pretty amazing because there are some really expensive cities though, yet and still, there are some really inexpensive and newer places to live in Cali. I was hoping the same rang true for cities in England.
Living in the countryside is lovely Nick4life, you can't beat that, fresh air, clean, less noise and pollution, but still the downside is properties are still expensive, really they are all over the UK, to be honest as Corelli says, the government is too blame, greed is all it is really, everything over here is tax tax and more tax, i'm well surprised they haven't taxed us to breathe...lol
I've always wanted to visit California, I will get to one day,, we always assume that the grass is greener on the other side

EVERYTHING is expensive here in London and the uk...we call it Rip Off Britain thanks to greedy politicians and utility companies!

It used to be cheaper the furthur you moved out of London but estate agents have got wise to this over the years and now it's getting just as expensive to live out of London as it is to live in London.
You may be surprised to hear this but the England of cream teas is only for the tourists nowadays! Brits have never drank tea with cream...a cream tea refers to a pot of tea with milk, and optional sugar, and buttered scones with jam and cream...this is why it's called a cream tea!
As for fireplaces...most newly build properties are very modern nowadays and don't have fireplaces just central heating.
London is a very modern city nowadays and we have a lot of American shops ie: McDonalds, Burger King, Ben and Jerrys, Krispy Kreme, and Starbucks and we drink more Coca Cola and coffee than tea!
I agree with you there hun, not much cheaper to live anywhere outside London nowdays, unless you want to buy a very run down property and rebuild it
Everything you said about London and the Uk is so true, and apart from the nasty weather we are having that seems to be putting the UK at a standstill, it's still a great place to live, so much to see and do when the weather is nice, it never fails to amaze me that you can go to so many places in the Uk and throughout your life time never see them all, the UK may be relatively small compared to the rest of the world, but we do have one of the most interesting history ever known.

Excellent Corelli! I had know idea you lived in England! So tell me... like California, the further you move away from the major cities, the cheaper it is to live... You can get an amazing home on the outskirts of the city for way less money, had you bought the same home in the city. The only problem is the commute!
Is it like that in England? Is every home equipped with some sort of fireplace? And does everyone have afternoon tea? Is it customary to have cream and sugar with your tea?
England, indeed the whole of the United Kingdom, is a great place to live. We have breathtaking scenery, beaches, countryside and towns and cities.
I myself am a Londoner born and bred and I am very proud of my country and city. Like all countries we have our fair share of the good and bad, rich and poor. We have a rich history, historic landmarks and wonderful architechture.
The downside of living in London is it's crowded and very expensive but the plus side is that London is a very vibrant, multicultural city with lots to see and do.
To my Vixens who live in the UK... Please, please tell me about England? Is it really as beautiful as the many pictures and travel documentaries I've seen?
I love the rain and cobble stone streets... England just seems like such a glorious place to live. Is it?
Please tell me as much as you can !
