Yeah, I guess you´re right... Some people get slammed all the time, and I´m afraid Nic is one of those. But he´s strong-willed and will try to prove the haters wrong all over again, like he´s done in the past. He has "reinvented" himself many times, and will no doubt continue to do so. Doubts & struggle are highly creative.
Besides, it looks like his personal life makes up for it at the moment, which is great. He must feel energized by just having these two wonderful kids to care for!
Well, the truth is....is that it's easy to say something of that sort as a soundbite in an interview....but actors are usually known for needing alot of recognition and approval.....so with the constant onslaught and negativity directed at Nic these days for every thing he does, I can't help but worry and wonder if he takes heed of the critics. I hope not!
All in all tho....I bet he is his harshest critic.
We all are our harshest critics, ya know?

Well, you don´t need to worry about critics because Nic has said many times that he welcomes bad reviews because they mean he has somehow made something worthy of attention which challenges conventions. Or something of the sort.
I agree that Nic was robbed of the Oscar for this performance. He should have won it hands down over Brody!
I just adore the Kaufman twins and the movie itself is one of my top two fav's.
As to what you said about the critics nowadays.....I've always thought that there was truly an element of jealousy being directed at Nic. It's like no matter what he does, he gets sliced and diced from all angles for any role he takes on just cuz he is who he is.
I just hope he doesn't let the critics into his 'head' and start believing the mud they sling.

I agree 100% Bonnie, in fact Charlie himself mentions that scene of the movie later on in the interview as an example of how well Nic "got him". He was robbed of that Oscar for this performance. Maybe this performance was too brainy for the Academy.
You know, I just think Nic´s abilities as an actor are being disregarded right now, like he´s in a down phase of appreciation by audiences and critics... maybe most people dont´get him. I mean, people get uneasy when faced with something that truly challenges their set of beliefs, and Nic is so off-the-wall. Maybe in the future he will be regarded as the very fine and innovative artist that he is, and not just the eccentric A-lister that loves comics and sounds like Elvis, which is just the tip of a very deep down iceberg.
OMG..............Nic was spot on with Charlie's mannerisms! The first segment of this interview reminds me so much the scene in ADAPTATION where he is meeting with the blond hair woman (from the publishing house) in the restaurant and he's trying to explain what he DOESN'T want to put into the screenplay!!!
I love it!
I knew there was a reason I've always admired Nic's acting above all others.....

He´s the screenwriter Nic portrayed in Adaptation. I admire Kaufman sooo very much, his screenplays are pure genius... This is a rare interview (he´s reclusive and seldom speaks in public).
Anyway, listening to his pitch of voice and looking at his body language and mannierisms makes you realize just how incredibly brilliant Nic´s performance was as Charlie Kaufman in Adaptation. He not only impersonated Charlie, he embodied his very soul...
