RE: Top Artists showing support for the Troops!

..an exhilirating thought about ripping the soul right open and i am not afraid to be. I don't need the world to approve, but its great to meet fellow travellers who like to boldly go. I have always been on a bit of a mission to raise consciousness, mine and the worlds and learnt being angry and challenging didn't do that. And making myself vulnerable didn't either. I stopped seeing society as one big lump of ignorant other, and through compassion found the individual story. In recent years thats has developed further when i realised that on a deeper level than the individual story we are all connected on a soul level in a kind of universal freefall filled with the same loving peace. If only we could all let go into it. Sorry..! These are deep waters and i don't want to detract further from the amazing message of your original thread! smile.gif

That is the absolute best way of speaking in my book!  Actions are also another great way of saying or making a statement without words.  "Actions speak louder than words", one of my favorite phrases, lol.  Have a great day and let your soul rip wide open, let the world see it and screw it if it can not handle nor absorb your mindset!  biggrin

Yeah, it is pretty damned cool that he does that!  My CSM found out what I did and just shook his head and muttered  "Quinlan, somehow I knew you would do something like this, at least your not getting into trouble!"  LOL.

I think the Soldiers will be very happy when they get these CD's.  (-:

Yeah, I was reading a lot about that CD (I get google alerts for John Ondrasik as well as Nic)...it sounds like they're doing a lot for the troops. It's a nice e-mail you sent him and got back ^^ I like that he actually responds to all of his e-mails himself

Hiya Everyone!  The other day I was reading the Fort Hood newspaper and found an article about the guy from the band Five for Fighting (yes, the band that sings the song "Superman"), showing support for the Troops by bringing in some of the top bands and cutting a CD.  Well I decided to email John and request a case of CD's for myself and fellow Wounded Warriors in the Wounded Warriors in Transition unit that I am in.  Most of these Soldiers were injured in Iraq.  He not only replied in a day to me, but he is going to help out and send the CD's!  Here is the article and I will also enclose my email and his reply.  How cool is this?  And Nic if you happen to read this, I am sure that the Soldiers would LOVE it if you could lend some kind of a helping hand too!  I know I would!!

NEW YORK (AP) -- Five For Fighting is taking care of the troops, music-wise.

John Ondrasik, the singer-songwriter who goes by the stage name Five For Fighting, called upon celeb pals including Billy Joel and Josh Groban to donate songs to an album dedicated to the U.S. Armed Services.

The result - "CD For The Troops," a free compilation of 13 songs produced especially, and exclusively, for active duty members and military veterans around the world. Those with valid military ID numbers can download the disc on the Army & Air Force Exchange Service Web site at http://www.aafes.com .

"I have a passion for the troops and their families - and veterans," Ondrasik said Monday in an interview with The Associated Press. "As a songwriter, freedom of speech allows me to practice my craft. As a father, these people secure the freedom and liberty for my kids. It may sound scripted or cliche, but it's true."

The 42-year-old, best known for the hits "Superman" and "100 Years," contributed the latter tune to the D because the troops "understand living in the moment better than any of us." Other tracks include Joel's "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant"; Groban's "February Song"; Sarah McLachlan's "Wintersong" and The Fray's "How To Save A Life."

"If you would have told me before I started this that I'd have this lineup at the end, I'd say `You're crazy.' ... Not only did they give me songs, but some of them gave me their biggest hits," said Ondrasik, who called the donations "a powerful statement."

Ondrasik said 200,000 hard copies will be distributed to U.S. troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan; in addition, the entertainer and father of two has been handing out copies as he performs on a USO tour of Japan, Guam and Hawaii.

"They can't believe it, you know," he said. "First of all, they say, `Is it really those artists singing?' ... A couple of `em want a little more rock, a couple of `em want a little more country - but I think overall, they are taken aback."

He said demand is high.

"There are (no CDS) left by the end of the night," he said. "They all go, and they're wanting more."

Hi there!  My name is Darcy Quinlan and I am a Soldier with the Army.  I am a Soldier in a unit that is called "The Wounded Warrior Battalion".  The unit is for Soldiers that have either been injured in the war in Iraq or someplace else, also for Soldiers that were not wounded in Iraq, but someplace else or maybe they have a disease, anything that now makes them unable to be a Soldier 100%.  In this special unit we are undergoing treatment and more than likely will be discharged from the Army and given a percentage and disability.

I noticed an article in the Fort Hood Sentinel about your new CD, and I think its GREAT that you are doing this for us!  I was wondering if it would be possible for a case of the CD's could be sent to us and I would give them to my fellow Soldiers as a Xmas gift from yourself and the other artist that helped make the CD.

If you can grant this request, I know it would make a lot of wounded Hero's happy and we really need every little bit of good things we can get now.  See, most of us are having a very hard time with adjusting to the fact that we can no longer be a Soldier and are ticked off about being in this Unit.

Here is my addy, I live on base.

Take Care

John
