RE: Surnames! where they have originated from and our ancestors

I worked as a genealogists assistant when I was studying, not as good as it sounds, hours of trawling through marriage and death records on microfiche and huge record books with smelly pages crunchy with age and illegible handwriting, lol, although there was something almost morbidly fascinating about it; curiously though, never did I research my own family history. I probably should have done though, maybe it would give me some sense of family connection which I don't feel. I don't even feel connected with this country, although I am from here, I have felt kind of dislocated most of my life. A feeling of not fitting in, even as if I shouldn't even be on this planet lol I know that sounds crazy but it's true.. Hard to explain!
I do know though that there is a french connection, and Irish, and lots of people say I have an eastern european look. My mother has this amazing white streak in her hair, she has had it since she was born, and that is meant to come from an ancient tribe, but I have no clue where!biggrin.gif

I don't know my family history past that of my grandparents so that's probably only within the last one hundred years. I know that my surname means gold (in Chinese) but I don't know where it originated from.

This thread gave me an idea, when Lesley posted about Nicknames in another thread, aww

We all love to know sometime through out our lives, where our surname or who our ancestors may have been and from where.
I haven't got round to searching for mine as such, I only have some info which was given to me recentlyaww
Searching your family tree/history must be fascinating, if you have all the facts that is to do the research, going back years into your family history, i would love to do thatsmile

My mother's side of the family our surname was established in the USA in 1774, also has some French connection as well, also it was brought over here to Cornwall sometime, and as far as i Know there is still a couple of people there with the same surname, as my grandfather etc had an unusual surname
I would love to know what other mixed blood i have, as my youngest daughter seems to have inherited a slight olive skin complexion with unusual eye colouring, maybe she inherited the unusual eye colouring off me, as Lula pointed out to me that i have a nice eye colouringcry

So if anyone on here, knows of their family history or has some knowledge where their name is originated, please post, as it would make some interesting readwinkaww
