On his notoriety as an actor who is known to give "over the top" performances:

"You wouldnt go to the Guggenheim and look at a Francis Bacon and go, 'Well, thats over the top.' Why should it be any different for an actor?"

"I really am very careful not to let acting become a mental institution. I dont want it to be insane. Ive been in scenes with people where all the actors are just plain nuts, doing crazy things to psych themselves up, and I have been that guy as well, and I dont want to be that person. At least not when I go home."
